1. 指出對方幫助自己的事情,表示感謝;

2. 展開敍述這件事;

Suppose you were taken good care of by Doctor Liu when you were in hospital. Write a letter in about 100 words to him to show your gratitude. Do not sign your own name at the end of your letter, using Li Ming instead.

Sample:

Dear Doctor Liu,

It is a great pleasure to extend my sincere thanks to you for your careful treatment and attendance when I was in hospital this March.

On that night, I got acute appendicitis and was sent to your hospital by my roommates. Yet I was very lucky to have you, an experienced and skillful doctor, on duty. You immediately diagnosed my disease, hospitalized me and arranged a timely operation for me. In the following days you took good care of me and talked to me from time to time to release my pain.

It was all because of your attendance and perfect professional skills that I could recover so soon. Therefore, thank you again and I wish I would have the chance to pay you back for all your kindness.

Yours faithfully,

a 信頭(heading)

15th august, 200__

或my dear…

在簽名的上方可根據寫信人和收信人的關係寫上sincerely yours/yours sincerely(用於長輩或朋友之間),或respectfully yours/yours respectfully(用於對長輩或上級)。

例如:my dear father,dear tom等。

例如:dear prof. tim scales, dear smith。

4、正文(body of the letter)

(1)寫給家人、親戚,用your loving grandfather,lovingly yours,lovingly等;

(2)寫給熟人、朋友,用yours cordially,yours affectionately等;

(3)寫業務信函用truely yours(yours truely),faithfully yours(yours faithfully)等;

(4)對上級、長輩用yours obediently(obediently yours),yours respectfully(respectfully yours)等。

Dear Chen Lin and Li Hua,

I’ve just been out of hospital for a couple of days. Right now ,I am really fine, but without your support, I wouldn’t have got better so soon.

You know, the traffic accident gave me a very hard blow, both physically and mentally. In the first two weeks after my injury, I almost lost my confidence in my future life. It is the doctors’and your encouragement that rendered me much strength and determination。

Anyway, I learned a lot from this unfortunate accident. I’d neverrealize how important your friendship was to me. I can’t say anymore to show my gratitude for your taking turns keeping me company,and getting me through the blue time.

Next Saturday, my mother would give a recovery party to thank myfriends. I really want to see you there. So, 7 o’clock at my place,OK?

Your truly,

Li Ming
