A: How in the world can you type so fast? I could watch you do that all day!

B: It’s second nature to me now, and I don’t even think about it. At home I have a real typewriter, but my kids say it’s old hat. I should use the computer, so I only use it for notes and envelopes.

A: 你怎麼打字打得那麼快!我都看傻了!

B:習慣成自然，我現在想都不想了。我家裏有台打字機，可我的孩子們都説那是老古董了。我應該用電腦，寫個便箋或是寫個信封什麼的才用打字機。

A: How is your work going?

B: Terrible! I’ve got tons of numbers to add up everyday, and that’s all I do. I never thought I would have a plodding job like this.

A: 工作幹得怎麼樣了?

B: 糟透了!我每天都要加成堆成堆的數字，除了這個就沒有別的了。從沒想過我會做這麼單調乏味的工作。

second nature: 第二天性。

old hat: 過時的，無聊的。

tons of: 大量的。

add up: 加在一起。

plodding: 單調乏味的;沉重緩慢的。

A: This is where you live? In this dark, old apartment, with old furniture and no pictures on the walls?

B: I know. It is a little drab. But it’s cheap, and I can fix it up a little bit each week.

A: 這就是你住的地方?房子又黑又舊，傢俱也很陳舊，牆上連幅畫也沒有。

B: 這我知道。是單調了點，不過很便宜，而且可以每週修整一點。

A: A friend in need is a friend indeed.

B: Can’t you think of something new to say? That hackneyed old expression doesn’t even mean anything anymore!

A: 患難見真情。

B: 能説點新鮮的嗎?那種被用濫的落俗套的話現在已經沒有任何意義了。
